For those of you not in the loop, I am on a Spring/Summer Co-Op with a company called MediNet. They are a biomedical company based out of Costa Mesa, California and for six months (starting in April) I will be working for them testing medical equipment in hospitals throughout the country for Y2K (Year 2000) compliance.
Those not familiar with the concept of a co-op will appreciate a definition. Co-op stands for Cooperative Education. The concept is to provide college students the opportunity to get some hands on experience in their field before graduating. This serves to supplement classroom knowledge and open possible doors for future employment. Therefore, I am still enrolled as a full time student at Cal Poly, I still pay full academic fees, and I will return to normal classes in the fall.
MediNet has contracts with hospitals throughout different parts of the United States. My job is to visit these hospitals as part of a four to five member team and test the equipment in the hospital to be sure it will not fail in the year 2000. The work is not too difficult technically speaking. I took the job primarily to broaden my people skills and to see more of this neato country we live in.
